 Well I was excited about
9 Karat Condominium. The
important word being WAS. I was looking for a low cost condo in Pattaya for
a friend. "You are the expert Mike so I leave it up to you". The task - find
a nice one bedroom condo or a large studio with a pool budget around 10,000
Baht a month, beach location not a priority.
My first research point as usual was the local
forums and chat boards. Very soon I saw reports about 9Karat Condo and most
of the reports were quite impressive and those reports from people who were
living or had previously owned or rented condominiums in 9Karat. One poster
sent me some pictures and a link to the condo website. Everything looked
impressive. This deal fell through and I went to pay a visit a few weeks
later.
Man!! was that a let down. Quite frankly
9Karat Condo is a dump. An old complex of Thai style apartments that the developer
has bought and tried to renovate. I say TRIED because they have done a lousy
job of it. Maybe there are some good rooms done up by the owners. I didn't
hang around long enough to check them out.
The Pros
- Cheap, especially for the fact that there are some good
facilities and a quite reasonable swimming pool with poolside bar
for those too lazy to take the fairly lengthy walk to the local
nightspots
- Good location, good security (cctv
throughout) friendly staff, good facilities (pool, shop, poolside
restaurant, laundry, fitness suite, wifi cheap price, views from high
floors facing west
The Cons
- The condo I looked at was a dump
- The view of the inside landings area reminded me of a prison
block
- Some room renovating going on
continuously (sometimes very noisy although time limited after
12pm only) some maintenance issues (lifts etc) parking for bikes
open to weather for most.
